Cultural places of Pakistan

Pakistan is the land of festivals and cultural activities extended from the sea level to high grounds. The people of five provinces and independent Kashmir have their history, languages, customs and festivals. 

Punjab is the largest province with a variety of languages, traditions, cultural and religious activities changing over a 100-kilometre distance from one point to another. The Chanan peer festival and Mela chiraghan are the most popular events in the world.

Sindh has its history, colours, customs and festivals such as the famous Urs of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, Sachal Sarmast and Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

Khaber Pakhton Khawa is full of natural beauty, heritage and culture. The people of KPK are lively and energetic. Shandur Polo festival celebrated on the Shandur top, also called the roof of the world, is an internationally recognized festival. Festivals of Kalash valley such as Chilam Joshi is held in the middle of May, Uchau in autumn, and the Caumus in midwinter.

Baluchistan has its unique environment and cultures that attract the people of Pakistan and people all across the world. Sibi festival has folk music performances, cultural dances, handicraft stalls, cattle shows and several other entertaining activities which elaborate the bright side of Baloch people. Buzkashi is another festival enhancing the bravery and tactfulness of Baloch people, practised on horse-back by two teams that use their skills to snatch a goat from each other.

Gilgit-Baltistan is full of natural beauty, history, culture and festivities. The most famous Navroz Festival marks the start of the Persian New Year. Originating in ancient Persia, Navroz is celebrated in different parts of the world and has its local variants. It is celebrated traditionally in the Gilgit-Baltistan region on 21st March onwards, every year. The festivities begin early in the morning and include free-style Polo, traditional dance and music with favourite conventional food items served throughout the festival.

Independent Jammu Kashmir holds a rich cultural heritage, besides a panoramic landscape that leaves many visitors spellbound. The culture and tradition are reflected in the several fairs and festivals of Jammu Kashmir, widely celebrated across the state with much zeal and gaiety. 

The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (NIFTH), popularly known as Lok Virsa, holds a Kashmir Cultural Festival in Muzaffarabad every year in October.
